The Swiss Ornithological Institute Sempach is a non-profit foundation for ornithology and bird conservation. It monitors the native bird world, researches their way of life and campaigns for the endangered bird world. It cares for injured and orphaned birds, informs and advises the public and runs a visitor center in Sempach. The Ornithological Institute employs over 200 people in all parts of the country.

The Ornithological Institute operates a care station for wild birds at its headquarters in Sempach. The dedicated team in the bird care department looks after more than 1,400 birds every year. This includes the rearing of young birds as well as the care of injured and weakened birds.

To strengthen our team, we are looking for two passionate

Student employees in the bird care department (10-20%)




Your tasks
- Care and cleaning of the ward:
o Responsibility for feeding the animals according to individual feeding plans.
o Cleaning and disinfecting work equipment, cages and outdoor aviaries.
- Assisting with veterinary treatments:
o Assisting the veterinarians in the care and treatment of the animals.
o Monitoring the well-being of the animals and ensuring their care.
o Assisting with sampling for research projects and early detection of animal diseases
- Assisting with daily tasks:
o Working with animal keepers and interns.


Your profile
- Ongoing studies in veterinary medicine
- You have already worked with (wild) birds.
- You are willing to work at weekends or on public holidays.
- You have manual dexterity and good fine motor skills.
- You have an ecological and biological understanding of wild animals.
- You can keep calm even in hectic situations.
- You are prepared to work physically.
- You speak fluent German to ensure smooth team communication.
- You have a category B driving license (an advantage).
